Rights from Compulsory Long-term Care Insurance
The insured person has the option of using long-term care insurance:
- non-monetary rights (full-day long-term care in an institution, daily long-term care, long-term care at home, caregiver of a family member) or
- monetary rights in the form of monetary remuneration.
The insured person may be entitled to additional rights services for strengthening and maintaining independence and co-financing of e-care services.
According to Law certain rights from long-term care are gradually introduced until 2025:
- the right to a caregiver of a family member comes into force on 1 January 2024,
- the right to long-term care at home comes into effect on 1 July 2025,
- the right to long-term care in an institution begins to apply on 1 December 2025 and
- the right to a cash payment begins on 1 December 2025.
The law also defines two additional rights:
- the right to services for strengthening and maintaining independence: if it concerns beneficiaries of long-term care at home and a caregiver of a family member, it begins to apply on 1 July 2025, and for beneficiaries of long-term care in an institution and beneficiaries of long-term care in the form of cash benefits from 1 December 2025;
- the right to e-care services: in the case of beneficiaries of long-term care at home, beneficiaries of a family member's caregiver and beneficiaries over 80 years of age, it begins to apply on 1 July 2025, and for beneficiaries of long-term care in the form of cash benefits from 1 December 2025.
Long-term care rights are asserted at long-term care entry points at social work centers.
